The Return of Armchair 45

Artek's design philosophy, rooted in artistic expression and functionality since 1935, emphasizes beauty and meaning in every detail, creating interiors that evolve with carefully selected objects. The return of Armchair 45, along with reworked Aalto classics like walnut-stained tables and pendant lights, reflects a harmony of natural materials and craftsmanship, blending past and present to enrich multi-layered living spaces with warmth, character, and timeless elegance.

Creating interiors that merge function with artistic expression has been central to Artek’s ideology since 1935. Ever since Aino Aalto’s creative direction of the company, the quest for beauty in every part of the interior has endured, with even the smallest aesthetic choices being imbued with meaning and beauty. This attention to detail results in interiors that evolve over time, with each new object carefully selected to add to the character and richness of the living environment.

Diverse materials and patterns provide a generous ambience, radiating character and personal significance. The immediate impression is one of effortlessness, yet there is an underlying intentionality. Natural materials are prioritised. Craftmanship is deeply valued. The result is a harmony that celebrates the quality of imperfection found in hand-crafted objects, where nothing is uniform but the overall effect is a unified work of art.

Armchair 45 returns to the collection this autumn to complement generous, multi-layered living spaces that transcend time and place. A favourite of its creator, Alvar Aalto, who used it in his architectural studio, the chair brings comfort and refinement to homes and working environments.

A broad range of versions is available to choose from, each with a blend of natural materials and details that elevate the chair's lightweight design. Leather, rattan and linen are thoughtfully applied to wood sourced from sustainably managed Finnish forests.

To accompany the return of Armchair 45, a series entitled "Crafted Through Time" features classic Aalto products that have been carefully selected and reworked. Two walnut-stained versions of the Aalto Table are available to add further richness to interiors, while Pendant Lights A110 "Hand Grenade" and A333 "Turnip" are reinterpreted with a new "linen" duotone colourway that bridges memories of the past with modern tastes.

Natural materials and warm colours ensure these products work together or as standalone items, complementing environments filled with a diverse mix of patterns and objects sourced from around the world and across generations.

A carefully considered selection of classic Aalto furniture and lighting is now available, celebrating such rich and storied environments. Armchair 45 returns to the collection to bring warmth and refinement to contemporary interiors, complemented by round and rectangular walnut-stained versions of the Aalto Table. Meanwhile, the A110 “Hand Grenade” and A333 “Turnip” pendant lights are reinterpreted with a new “linen” duotone colourway that bridges memories of the past with modern tastes. Natural materials and warm colours ensure these products work together or as standalone items to enrich environments filled with a diverse mix of patterns and objects, sourced from around the world and across generations.

The Artek collection fits perfectly into classic interiors because its timeless designs, like Armchair 45 and Aalto Tables, are crafted with natural materials that evoke warmth and richness, seamlessly blending with traditional décor. The use of wood, leather, rattan, and linen, along with the reimagined pendant lights, create a refined aesthetic that bridges past and present, enhancing multi-layered living spaces that celebrate both heritage and modernity.
